Kev Choice is an Oakland native and classically trained pianist who blends musical genres of jazz, soul, hip hop and more with a distinct style. He has been called a cultural historian and urban griot” and has performed with the Oakland Symphony and performed, recorded, and toured the world with artists such as Michael Franti and Spearhead, Lyrics Born, Too $hort, Lauryn Hill, The Coup, Souls of Mischief, and Mos Def, among many others. For this event he will bringing along a special guest, but you have to attend to find out who!

The concert will begin with the Lucy Kinchen Chorale, a diverse group of a cappella vocalists who perform Negro spirituals. The Chorale is dedicated to renewing awareness and appreciation of the Negro spiritual, one of America’s original art forms

The Alumnae of Color Endowed Scholarship was created in honor of President Emerita Alecia DeCoudreaux, Mills College’s first African American president. To date, the Alumnae of Color Committee has raised $150,000 for the scholarship. We hope to continue giving this scholarship to students of color for many years to come. With that in mind, the present goal is to grow the endowment to $200,000.

This scholarship helps to give students of color a little extra support during their time at Mills, support that might be the difference between a student being able to get a Mills College education and not.

If you cannot attend, but would still like to support Mills students of color, you can make a donation online by visiting alumnae.mills.edu/alumsofcolorgive. If you’d prefer to send a check, make it payable to “Mills College,” and in the memo line write “AOCC Endowed Scholarship.” Mail your checks to the Office of Institutional Advancement, Mills College, 5000 MacArthur Blvd. Oakland, CA 94613
