Event description

Description

THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY FOR MADISON AUDUBON MEMBERS ONLY.

Experience the incredible beauty and power of an American kestrel close up! With Madison Audubon Society and the Central Wisconsin Kestrel Research project, you will get to learn about our kestrel nest box program and how and why biologists band kestrel chicks, and even get to hold a kestrel chick!

This event is for individuals of all ages. Handling of the birds, while awesome, is not required. We use proven techniques to keep the birds calm during banding, which ensures the birds' safety, as well as yours.

EVENT DETAILS:

There are three dates available: Friday, June 15 (raindate: June 18); Saturday, June 23 (raindate: June 24); and Friday, June 29 (raindate: July 1). The time for each event is 8:30 AM to approximately 12:30 PM.

1. Registrants will meet at Goose Pond Sanctuary (W7503 Kampen Road, Arlington - west of the railroad tracks) and will carpool to the banding sites. Please note that we will leave for the nest box route promptly at 8:30 am so don't be late!

2. We'll be stopping and working along roadsides and in grassland habitat, where bugs and pokey plants reside. Closed shoes, tall socks, and pants are recommended. Please also bring sunscreen and water, as well as a hat, snacks, and bug spray if desired.

Contact Brand Smith (608-444-8952) or Mark Martin (608-333-9645) with questions about the event.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:

1. At this time, this event is for Madison Audubon members in good standing only. Not a member? Join here!

2. Please register for only one timeslot to allow as many of your fellow bird enthusiasts to share in this experience as possible.

3. The rain date is to be determined. If your scheduled session is canceled due to the weather, we will contact you very early the morning of the event. If your banding session is rescheduled and you can’t attend, you will have the option of receiving a refund.

4. Once the sessions are full, we will begin a waiting list. Those on the waiting list will be contacted if registrants drop out and/or if there are spots available in the rain date sessions.
