Description

Innovative Technologies Advancement & Research Campus (ITARC), a 501(c) USA based non-profit organization that strives to create efficacy in communities worldwide is planning for a medical mission to Kenya September 8-22, 2017. In collaboration with local organizations, we are planning to provide health services to four different cities in Kenya to include Muranga, Machakos, Ruiru Loiktoik, and Nakuru. The mission involves participation of volunteers in different multidisciplinary teams in health care to include Medical Doctors, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Mental Health Clinicians, Pharmacists, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Nutritionists, Dentists, Ophthalmologists, Midwives, Surgeons, Translators, Educators, Researchers, Church Elders, Case Managers/ Social Workers, Administrators, College Students, and IT Personnel.

The group intends to provide the following services;

  • Blood cholesterol (total, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides) screening and education,
  • Blood glucose screening and education,
  • Blood pressure screening and education,
  • Breast cancer – educate women on breast self-examinations,
  • Prostate cancer – educate men on self-examination practices,
  • Hearing tests,
  • Foot care especially areas infested with jiggers – provide donated shoes and educate on foot care,
  • Emergency Care practices – Johns Hopkins Emergency Community Service Committee will develop strategies to be implemented including first aid kits.
  • Orientation and recruitment of local volunteers – educate on several practices that can be passed on to the rest of the community
  • Respiratory; Asthma, COPD, smoking cessation,
  • Infectious; AIDS/HIV, STDs education and screening,
  • Malaria prevention for instance providing mosquito nets,
  • Girls hygiene practices; provide sanitary pads
  • Preventative Medicine; Immunizations, Obesity
  • Children and women healthy Nutrition practices
  • Dental care
  • HIV Screening and prevention,
  • Vission/Glaucoma screening,
  • Mobility assistance.

The main goals of our trip are to;

- Increase health awareness by providing health screenings, activities, materials, demonstrations, and information,

- Motivate participants to make positive health behavior changes,

- Provide immunizations for children and adults

- General health improvements with the use of clean water and safe cooking practices.

- Teach self-care practices,

- Empower the local community people to advocate for quality care and access to health resources.
