Whether you're a home owner, general contractor, avid craftsman, architect, or someone who simply loves old houses, this course is for you. Join us for a 5-day workshop to rehabilitate historic wood windows at the incredible Kenton Ash estate. Built c1801, the Kenton Ash house is a remarkable survivor of early Kentucky and will allow course participants an exceptional experience to learn hands on with original materials. Properly repaired historic windows have been proven as effective and as energy efficient as modern replacements when treated properly.

This course will offer instruction and practice in hands-on restoration techniques with nationally recognized preservationist Duffy Hoffman.

Learn to restore wood windows through the restoration process--from start to finish.

• Map and number windows prior to removal.

• Disassemble, stabilize, and reassemble windows.

• Repair and replace window ropes, chains and pulleys.

• Restore and replace deteriorated and missing wood elements.

• Review paint-stripping materials, methods and learn how to conduct routine maintenance.

• Use a duty-specific steam box to safely remove old paint and glaze.

• Re-glaze windows and replace broken or damaged glass.

• Brush up on painting and refinishing tools, techniques, and materials.

• Incorporate lead-safe work practices

To ensure a remarkable learning experience, this class is limited to 12 persons.
