3pm & 5pm: World-renowned organist Kent Tritle will grace the Old Dutch with a recital on the wonderful Noack tracker organ. The program will include works by J.S. 6:00 - 8:30 pm: Philipsburg Manor will throw open its doors for a reception from 6-8:30 p.m. Not a fluffy event, but this gathering at the restoration will connect visitors to the real, livable ... and fun history of Old Dutch, since the first lord of the manor built the church. Mouth-watering hors d’oeuvres! Hudson Valley cheeses! Open bar! Live Auction!
This year marks the 325th anniversary of one of the most famous churches in the country: the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow. Dating from 1685, this beautiful historic building is the oldest church in New York State. It gained world-wide fame in 1819 when Washington Irving published, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The church is also associated with Gen. George Washington. In July 1781, he and the Continental Army halted at the church until dusk.
Today the church remains an active place of worship for the Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns.
Be a part of history! Your participation helps us with maintenance and preservation of the church and the surrounding historic burial ground.
325 Years ... and Counting.
