Silver Linings: Triumph of Loss by Kendra Ross

PLASTIC ABODES by Emily Smith

(BkSD Artists in Residence)

Silver Linings: Triumph of Loss by Kendra Ross is an investigation of what can be gained from both individual loss (for instance, how does the loss of a loved give us strength to uphold their legacy) and generational loss (how has the loss of unarmed people of color due to the police violence given us the galvanizing power of the #blacklivesmatter movement) through a collaborative creative process. This piece will be a moving ritual of reflecting and healing, especially for black and brown people who continue to experience consistent loss in our current social and political atmosphere.

PLASTIC ABODES by Emily Smith. During this Residency Emily will be creating a new work. She is researching human’s relationship with urban and rural environments. She is also making this piece in reaction to Lego World being built on her home town, and this finding her self with out a home at all. This showing will be the first of this new body of work.

Emily Smith Smith combines sculptural elements with the movement arts to create “kinetic sculptures” or to invoke specific surreal performance environments.
