Description

AN OBLONG PUPPY DAY EVENT!

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Ken's books today will benefit the Animal Farm Foundation (AFF) PAWS of Purpose program.

PRE-ORDER THE BOOK

Ken Foster's CITY OF DOGS: New York Dogs, Their Neighborhoods, and the People Who Love Them with photographs by Traer Scott - is a beautiful, heartfelt, funny, and inspiring collection of photos and stories that maps the relationship between canine New Yorkers and their human counterparts.

4:00 PM Before Ken's presentation we will be joined by representatives (both canine and human) from the Animal Farm Foundation (AFF) and the NYC Department of Correction (DOC) who work together to make a positive impact in the lives of dogs and people through the PAWS of Purpose Program at Rikers Island. AFF matches eight dogs with two groups of inmates for an 8-week residency at Rikers Correctional Facility. The dogs live with the inmates, who work closely with a certified professional dog trainer to provide the dogs with daily care, companionship, training, and socialization. After graduating from the program the dogs go on to become assistance dogs, detection dogs, or pet dogs.

Ken Foster is the author of several books on dogs, including The Dogs Who Found Me, the New York Times bestseller Dogs I Have Met: And the People They Found, and the national bestseller I'm a Good Dog: Pit Bulls, America's Most Beautiful (and Misunderstood) Pet. A collection of his short stories, titled The Kind I'm Likely to Get, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His writing has appeared in McSweeney's, The Believer, the San Francisco Chronicle, Bomb, Fence, and Bark.

Traer Scott is an award-winning photographer and author of eight books, including: Shelter Dogs, Nocturne: Creatures of the Night, and Finding Home: Shelter Dogs and Their Stories. Her work has been featured in National Geographic, Life, Vogue, People, and O: The Oprah Magazine, and on The New York Times's Lens blog.
