What is Toastmasters?

Toastmasters is an international, non-profit organization that offers a proven and enjoyable way to learn and develop communication, speaking, and leadership skills. It has over 350,000+ members in more than 15,500 clubs in 125 countries worldwide. A Toastmasters meeting can be compared to an onsite training class where members meet to sharpen their communication and leadership skills in a supportive setting with other co-workers.

• Conduct better sales presentations and effective meetings
• Flexibility
• Ongoing experience, Overcoming fears
• Build professional relationships and expand networks
• Advance personal and professional growth
• Develop confidence and executive presence

• Time management skills, Self-confidence and poise
• Cost effectiveness

• A supportive environment, A positive atmosphere
• Ease in front of a group

How much does it cost?

There is Toastmasters a $20 one-time new member fee per person, payable when the individual joins the club. The initial cost of workbooks for new members is included in the one-time new member fee. Additional workbooks are available at additional cost, however, some training materials are complimentary and are provided by Toastmasters International.

What is required when I join?

The most important requirement is to make an effort to make it to meetings. Of course, everyone runs into personal or professional commitments from time-to-time.

How often must I prepare and present a speech?

The easy answer is "as often as you would like." Some members like to speak frequently and might present a speech every month. Others might only present a speech every two to four months. The Vice President of Education works with each member to determine how often a member wishes to speak. Also, members can take on various other roles that allow them to speak during the meetings.

What resources are available to help me develop my skills?

When you join, members get a Competent Communication manual which will guide you through your first 10 speeches. Members also get a Competent Leader manual. New members may engage a mentor, a seasoned Toastmaster, to help them prepare for their speeches and learn about meeting roles and responsibilities. Members may also be assigned a coach to help them in a variety of situations to get up-to-speed with speaking, leadership and member activities. Toastmasters International also provides many online resources to help in the member learning process.

How do I join?

Membership is voluntary and open. Bring along your friends and colleagues and experience what Toastmasters is about. We encourage guests to attend a meeting prior to submitting an application.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is ample visitor parking in front and below the building.

Do you have speech contests?

Of course. In fact, we are getting ready for the Spring International 2018 Speech Contest.
