Strength and Instability: The tightrope that all women walk
These two celebrated authors understand that stepping outside societal boundaries is necessary for diverse voices to be heard, for inner voices to be followed, and for personal growth—by both authors and readers—to be achieved. During this conversation, Kristen Millares Young and Keila Vall de la Ville will explore what it means to be a Latina woman writing in the US and how the intersection of their cultural and gender identities has informed their work in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. They will read excerpts of their books, discuss their work, and share perspectives. Keila Vall de la Ville will read from her book, The Animal Days (translated into English by Robin Myers), the long-awaited translation of Los d as animales, winner of the 2018 International Latino Book Award. Seattle writer Kristen Millares Young will read from her highly acclaimed first novel, Subduction.
