Mayor Pro Tempore Chrelle Booker is a Polk County, NC, native with roots grounded in the town of Tryon, NC. Ms. Booker is the President of the National League of Cities’ Women in Municipal Government, 2022-2023, which includes all of the United States. She was elected in November at NLC’s 2022 City Summit Conference in Kansas City, MO. President Booker recently completed her term as a member on the Board of Directors of the National League of Cities, Chair of the Information Technology and Communications Committee, and 1st Vice President of Women in Municipal Government. She was also a member of the Legislative Action Committee and Small Cities Council. NLC is America's nonpartisan voice for more than 218 million people and over 19,400 cities, towns, and villages in Washington, DC and the 49 states’ municipal leagues. She was one of eight women from across the USA featured for Women’s History Month 2021 in the article “Women in Local Government: Paving the Way, Breaking Barriers & Leading Differently.” Ms. Booker is also a former candidate for the 2022 U.S. Senate in NC.
