Description

Celebrating the arrival of spring, Holi (also called Holika or Phagwa) is a festival practiced by Hindus in countries such as India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and the United States.

This year, Keene State College has joined forces with the Historical Society of Cheshire County and Keene India Association to present the city’s 3rd annual Holi Fest!

The public is invited to attend this free, family-friendly, cultural celebration in the Mabel Brown Room of the L.P. Young Student Center of Keene State College on Saturday, April 6th, 2019 from 1pm-3:30pm.

Members of the regions Indian community will share the epic story behind the festival as well as their personal memories of celebrations in the past. Dance and musical performances by regional talent will be followed by a lesson in dandiya stick dancing. The public’s participation is encouraged. Keene’s Indian Restaurant, Royal Spice, will be on hand to sell food.

At 3pm, families are invited to shake off their winter blues and rejoice in the colors and liveliness of spring by heading outside to respectfully throw colored powder at each other. The Society recommends that participants wear old clothes and dress warmly. There is no fee to participate but registration is required to receive a packet of colored powder. This event is sponsored by C&S Wholesale Grocers. To Please RSVP for Keene Holi Fest 2019!
