About this Event

KCUR and StoryCorps Present:

How Do We Talk About This? Conversations Across Values and Beliefs

Are you fed up with the state of political conversations and debates? Are you looking for ways to connect with people who have a totally different worldview?

KCUR and StoryCorps can help you navigate the minefield of talking across values and beliefs. We'll explore whether civil discourse actually helps us, and what strategies we can use to achieve it.

We’ll hear from experts and people who’ve actually succeeded in having this kind of conversation. Finally, using all we’ve learned, we’ll witness two politicians connect.

Featured speakers:

Susan Wilson | Vice-chancellor of Diversity and Inclusion at UMKC and psychologist, contributor to KCUR

Timothy Shaffer | Assistant Director of the Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy at K-State

Erica Stone | One Small Step participant

Bonjwing Lee | One Small Step participant and KCUR food critic

Kevin Yoder | former United States Congressman from Kansas

Jean Peters Baker | Jackson County Prosecutor and chair of the Missouri Democrats
