CACI Roundtable
Kazakhstan:  The Long View

As Kazakhstan celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary, the country has come a long way. For the next twenty-five years and beyond, Kazakh authorities have set out an ambitious vision for turning the country into one of the most developed in the world. Impressive economic development has enabled the leadership to provide stability, strengthen sovereignty, and brand Kazakhstan on the international arena.

However, old challenges will remain and new ones will undoubtedly emerge. There are several crucial social, economic, political, and international processes that Kazakhstan will have to confront as it embarks upon its future development. How can this ambitious vision be realized?

Ambassador Krol will address the past, present and future of US-Kazakh relationships, while Dr. Cornell will focus on the long term strategy of Kazakhstan's development, reflected in his new Silk Road Paper Kazakhstan 2041: the Next Twenty-Five Years.

Ambassador George A. Krol,  US Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan

Svante Cornell, Director, Central Asia-Caucasus Institute

Moderator: S. Frederick Starr, Chairman, Central Asia-Caucasus Institute

A light breakfast with coffee and tea will be provided.  Please note that this event is by invitation only.
