Kings Against Violence Initiative

All of our young people require safe and supportive communities that believe in them and provides opportunities for them to grow and thrive. But young people of color in Central Brooklyn face greater barriers on their path to adulthood. Violence is the leading cause of death among 15-24 years olds, particuarly for African American boys and young men.

Since 2009, KAVI has partnered with hundreds of Central Brooklyn youth to help transfrom their futures. We invest our time and resources within our community where young people impacted by violence are most likely to be-in school or at the hospital.  Taking a public health approach to ending violence means addressing all the factors that contribute to violence, rather than focusing only on disciplining and/or policing our young people. We rely on data, prevention efforts and community-driven solutions to help build a safer and stronger Central Brooklyn.
