Event description

Description

Shortly after graduating from UCLA with a degree in Musical Theater, Katie Boeck formed a band and began playing open mic nights on Sunset Boulevard and LA's West Side. This led to a gig as the lead singer of an all-female Pop group that began touring across India, playing outrageous and extravagant weddings and corporate events. It wasn't exactly the dream she had envisioned, but the bizarre and surreal experience inspired her first EP, Speaking of You, funded through Kickstarter, which chronicles her "Eat, Pray, Love"-esque adventures in romantic, spiritual and musical exploration while living in Mumbai.

Upon returning home, she created a niche as the guitar-playing actress of Los Angeles. She landed a role on HBO's The Newsroom where she performed her acoustic rendition of Ave Maria during a pivotal scene in the acclaimed series' final season. Later that year she joined the cast of Deaf West Theater Company's production of Duncan Sheik's musical, Spring Awakening, sharing the starring role of Wendla with deaf actress Sandra Mae Frank. Katie sang and played guitar, speaking the lines alongside her counterpart who performed the role in American Sign Language. The show started in a 99-seat theater at Inner City Arts in Downtown LA, and quickly gained a cult following, transferring to Broadway's Brook's Atkinson Theater in New York City for a limited run. The production received rave reviews in the New York Times, earning television features on Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Nightly News with Lester Holt, and culminating in a Tony Nomination for Best Revival of a Musical and a performance at the 2016 Tony Awards.

It was during this time that Katie's father and lifelong musical inspiration passed away unexpectedly. His untimely death and the close of the show prompted a heartfelt return to her songwriting roots and a subsequent move to Nashville, TN, where she currently resides with her husband and 1 year old son. Katie is currently writing and recording a second EP and a Christmas album to be released later this year. Katie performs regularly at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe, and returns yearly to a variety of listening rooms and festivals including New York's Rockwood Music Hall, The Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles and Mile of Music in Appleton, WI. She most recently appeared at Carnegie Hall for Tim Janis' Annual Christmas Concert and Fundraiser performing her original song What Are We Waiting For, and continues to lend her talents to new and exciting theatrical works, frequently with her guitar in tow.
