About the Book:
You probably know a “fangirl.” You may be a fangirl. Put simply: a fangirl is a fan of any pop culture show, book or phenomenon who identifies as a lady. But then why is being a fangirl so stigmatized? And why does a fangirl’s focus on her fave fictional worlds tend to keep her from putting her incredible qualities to use in her own life?
Can the fantastic traits that make up the fangirl brain be used to create an awesome existence for the fangirl’s actual life? Licensed therapist, mental health journalist, and proud fangirl Kathleen Smith is here to show fangirls everywhere that they can translate their best obsessions into bold, real-world moves of their own in THE FANGIRL LIFE: A Guide to All the Feels and Learning How to Deal (TarcherPerigee; July 2016).
About the Author: KATHLEEN SMITH runs the website FangirlTherapy.com, where she answers questions submitted by fangirls struggling with their obsessions. She's written for popular websites such as Slate, Lifehacker, HelloGiggles, Bustle, and Thought Catalog. Kathleen is also a licensed therapist and mental health journalist, reporting for publications and sites such as Counseling Today, The Huffington Post, and PsychCentral. An out-and-proud fangirl, she read every Star Wars universe novel then in existence by the time she was 12 years old and was a blogger for the popular website What Would Emma Pillsbury Wear?, where she chronicled a year of not wearing pants, as inspired by the hit show Glee (before it was ruined beyond all recognition). She would never turn down a ticket to Comic-Con.
