Event description

Description

The gorgeously romantic Piano Concerto no. 5 of Camille Saint-Saëns forms the heart of this recital of virtuoso music inspired by Egypt, which also includes Debussy’s atmospheric Canope, his musical response to funerary urns from the ancient Nile. Anton Arensky’s dynamic Egyptian Nights, written for Russia’s Imperial Ballet, is played alongside Rachmaninoff’s spectacular Études-tableaux. The New York Times lauded Chi’s “keen musical intelligence and powerful arsenal of technique.”

This performance is part of the 25th season of the Meyer Concert Series and is presented in conjunction with Devine Felines: Cats of Ancient Egypt.
