Description

Katelyn Emerson is the 2016 First Prize winner of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) in performance. Emerson is currently the Associate Organist & Choirmaster at The Church of the Advent in Boston, MA. The Catalina Organ Festival is pleased to be able to host this bright and energetic young musician to Tucson on Friday, January 26, 2018.

Organist Katelyn Emerson, is praised for her "great sensitivity" and "exciting artistry" (The American Organist), showcasing a repertoire from the 14th–21st centuries in performances throughout North America and Europe. Upcoming and past recital venues include such illustrious locations as Walt Disney Hall (Los Angeles, California), Hallgrímskirkja (Iceland), Cathédrale Saint-Omer (France), Kurhaus Wiesbaden (Germany), the Riverside Church (New York, New York), the American Cathedral (Paris, France), Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Hall (Russia), Cathédrale St-Quentin (Hasselt, Belgium), the Hauptkirche St. Petri (Hamburg, Germany), Merrill Auditorium (Portland, ME), Bradford Cathedral (England), the Cathédrale Poitiers (France), Église Saint-Gilbert (Montréal, Canada), Evangelische Saalkirche (Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany), Severance Hall (Cleveland, OH), among others.

Emerson has won numerous prizes including the prestigious J. William Fulbright Study/Research Grant for the post graduate academic year in 2015-2016 at the Conservtaoire a Rayonnement Regional in Toulouse, France. She graduated in 2015 from Oberlin College and Conservatory with double bachelor’s degrees in organ performance and French as well as minors in music history and historical performance (fortepiano). She won the Special Prize of the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Society and made her Russian concertizing debut in Krasnoyarsk, Russia in November 2016. Katelyn was selected as one of The Diapason's "20 under 30 - Class of 2015," a group of young organists, organ builders, harpsichordists, and choral directors showing "superior accomplishments, leadership, creativity and innovative thinking," and was featured in The Diapason's May 2015 issue.

She has studied with James David Christie, Olivier Latry, Hans-Ola Ericsson, Ludger Lohmann, Marie-Louise Langlais, Ray Cornils, and Dr. Abbey Hallberg-Siegfried. She has also studied organ improvisation with Jeffrey Brillhart, Marie-Louise Langlais, and Bálint Karosi, piano with Arlene Kies, fortepiano with David Breitman, both harpsichord and continuo with Webb Wiggins, flute with Trisha Craig, and voice with Ellen Hargis.
