Event description

Description

KAPIO Conference 2019 is a two-day conference where public information officers, communications staff, crisis communicators, and others who communicate with the public gather to learn, understand current trends, and network with others in our field.

This conference is not limited to those who are members. All who perform these types of tasks in a government or quasi-government/non-profit field
are welcome.

Conference fee is $160. Refunds are not available after May 15.

You may still reserve your room at Hotel Old Town. We have an expanded block available on a first-come, first-served basis. Rooms are $105/night on May 29-30 and, if you wish to extend your stay through the weekend to attend Wichita’s Riverfest, the hotel will honor our reduced conference rate for those added nights.

Each day, we will offer a general session keynote, additional plenary sessions and breakouts:

We have secured speakers on the following topics:

* We’re bringing Kerry Shearer, The Livestream Video Expert to conference! Kerry is a pro at teaching government social media folks how to use video to engage your audience and create content that is seen and heard! As we all know, video is powerful but we’re all stretched in so many different directions that it is hard to become a video pro – so let Kerry teach you some tips. He will have some of his favorite gadgets on hand to show you how to use them and he’s staying for the whole conference so you can stop and ask him more questions on break.

* Jannelle Watson, team member with Facebook U.S. Politics and Government Division, will present on the current platform best practices and how public communicators can best use Facebook for authentic engagement.Facebook is rolling out a new tool called Community Action (not available in Kansas yet). This is Facebook’s newest civic engagement and Jannelle will discuss how PIOs can use this tool for community engagement.

* To Engage or Not? That is the Question. – How to determine when to best engage friends, foes, and everyone in between on behalf of your organization.

* Brand and Image Management for Your Organization

* Everyone Is a Reporter: Dealing with “Gotcha” Journalism in Your Organization

* KOMA and KORA for PIOs – Presented by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office

* Census 2020 – Preparing Your Community for the Count
