This year KanKouran will present its 33rd Annual African Dance and Drum Festival. The outdoor African Marketplace always draws a crowd and we want you to be a part of it. The festival will take place at the Dance Exchange in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, from September 2 - September 4, 2016.
KanKouran’s annual African dance and drum festival offers festival attendees a chance to experience the sights and sounds of West Africa. KanKouran invites you to become part of its African marketplace. This is great opportunity for your products, services and ideas to be embraced by the creative individuals attending the annual African dance and drum festival.

Step 1: Read Vending Process and Policies
Thank you for your interest in KanKouran’s Annual African Dance and Drum festival! The vending team manages all vending registrations. Should you have any questions or need support, please do not hesitate to contact the vending team at vending[AT]kankouran[DOT]org.
Step 2: Apply to Vend
The outdoor festival marketplace will be open during the following times at the Dance Exchange. The fee will be $100 per day. Vendors may share or purchase multiple spaces (2 space maximum per vendor per day). Vendors are responsible for providing their own tents, tables and chairs (2 tables maximum per space).
Friday, September 2nd: 1pm – 10pm
Saturday, September 3rd: 10am – 6pm
Sunday, September 4th: 10am – 9pm
- If you want to vend more than one day, you must select the ticket for each day. For example: To vend all 3 days, buy a ticket for Friday, a ticket for Saturday, and a ticket for Sunday.
- If you want to reserve more than one table, you must select the quantity that reflects the number of tables you want. For example: To reserve two tables on Saturday, buy a Saturday ticket with quantity “2”.
- Vending of food and/or beverages will not be permitted at the 2016 African and Drum Festival, or anywhere on the premises of the Dance Exchange.
- Vending opportunities are only available at the Dance Exchange.
- Volunteer opportunities are NOT available for the conference.
After selecting your choice from above, we will ask for vendor information (Name, description, and contact information).
Your vending application will be considered complete when we receive ALL of the requested information AND the corresponding vending fee. Space reservation is limited and will be made available on a first come/first served basis. Paying the vending fee guarantees your space for the day(s) you for which you have paid.
By submitting your registration and payment, you are certifying that you read this applicationin its entirety, understand the content, have retained the policies for vendor participation, and will comply with all of its terms.
Step 3: Receive KanKouran 2016 Vending Opportunities Confirmation and Receipt
Once you submit your payment, you will receive an e-mail order confirmation (from Eventbrite) and a receipt (from PayPal). If your application is not accepted, you will receive e-mail notification from the vending team and your fee will be refunded.
Step 4: E-mail Acknowledgement Receipt to Vending Team
A week before the event, the vending team will e-mail the FINAL Vendor Information. Once you have received the e-mail, you must e-mail a reply documenting that you have received the information in the message.
Step 5: Select Vending Space Location
Vendors who have paid for spaces prior to Ausgust 30, 2016 will be contacted via e-mail to select their space location in order of registration payment date. At least 2 weeks before the event, the vending team will e-mail each vendor with an invitation to select your space. You will have 48 hours to respond on your space location preferences. Please do not contact the vending team about your space location. Sending e-mails about space selection will delay the vending registration process.
Step 6: Vend!
When you arrive at the conference, your space will be reserved for the day(s) for which you have paid.
You are responsible for reading, understanding and meeting all guidelines and compliance set forth in the Vendor Information kit. Should you have any questions, please contact the vending team.

The fee must be paid in advance of arrival at the venue and vendor set-up. There are no exceptions. Vendors who have not completed the registration will not be permitted to vend.

All vendors are expected to adhere to the vending, set-up, and breakdown hours. Please plan to arrive early so you can arrange your vending space during set-up hours. If you are vending for more than one day, you may leave your merchandise in the vending space for the days reserved. If you know that you will need to set-up outside of these hours, please contact the vending team.
Business/Organization/Vendor certifies that they read this application in its entirety, understand the content, have retained the policies for exhibitor participation, and will comply with all of its terms. KanKouran retains the right to terminate vendor agreement at any time during the term of the applicant’s use if: (A) Applicant is found to have falsified any information contained in this application; (B) Applicant is found to have changed and/or added to the use described in this application; (C) Applicant’s use of the premises in any way interferes with the orderly and successful conduct of the festival; (D) Applicant violates any of the above mentioned policies.

Where will the vending location be (in reference to festival activities)?
The vending area/marketplace will be outdoors in the Dance Exchange parking lot. Festival attendees will pass by all vendor spaces on their way to registration and classes.
What are the dimensions of the vending spaces?
Each vending space is approximately 6' x 15' or 15' x 6'. Spaces are horizontal and vertical.
Is the space equipped with elecricity or a power supply?
The vending area is not equipped with electricity or power supply.
Can I set-up the night before I am scheduled to vend?
No. You will only be allowed to set-up during the set-up times on the days for which you have paid. Please adhere to the vending hours noted above.
Can I leave my items on site overnight?
No. We are unable to accomodate overnight storage for vendors. Please adhere to the vending hours noted above.
What happens if my vending application is not approved?
You will be issued a refund.
I want to select my vending space. Where do I do that?
Vendors who have paid for spaces prior to August 30, 2016 will be contacted via e-mail to select space location in order of registration payment date. The vending team will contact each vendor at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Once you have paid for your space, you do not need to contact the vending team. When you arrive on site for the festival and conference, you will be escorted to your assigned space by someone from the vending team.
There are no more vending spots available. What do I do?
Once all the vending spots have been filled, we will create a waiting list. Please select the waiting list ticket and we will contact you only if a spot becomes available. NOTE: The system will automatically send you an order confirmation. This confirmation does not grant you permission to vend. Your vending application is considered complete when we receive ALL of the requested information AND the corresponding vending fee.
How do I sign-up to volunteer in the vending area?

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Take the Red Line to Takoma. Exit the Metro station and continue straight on Carroll Avenue. At the second stop light, take a left on Maple Avenue. Dance Exchange is half a block down on your right. Come around to the back of the building.
There is a small parking lot behind our building as well as metered parking spots in front of the Dance Exchange studio. You can park along Maple Avenue and in the surrounding neighborhood, but be mindful of the parking restrictions, as you may be ticketed.
