KANE MATHIS
Years of study with generous masters have given Kane a rare opportunity to share these traditions with other cultures. Kane began taking trips to The Gambia, West Africa in 1997 and has continued rigorous study of the Mandinka Kora. Over the past ten years his performances have earned him recognition by the Gambian president, The Gambian minister of culture, and both national television and radio of The Gambia.

Kane’s primary kora teachers are Malamini Jobarteh of Brikama, The Gambia and Moriba Kouyate of The Gambia. The Jobarteh family remain one of The Gambia’s most important musical legacies. Tata Din din Jobarteh, Pa Bobo Jobarteh, and Siffai Jobarteh are the families current most visible exponents touring the world.

* MILES JAY ~ MULTIFACETED VIRTUOSO DOUBLE BASS, BUZUK & LYRA
Miles Jay is a composer and instrument maker, and an active performer with many prominent artists around the world. Broad in range of his musical influences and communities, Miles has lived abroad for years absorbing styles from many traditions, and has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi, TED 2013 Long Beach, and the United Nations.

From 2005 to 2012, Miles lived in Egypt and Lebanon, performing and collaborating with many beloved artists of the region, including Youssou N’Dour, Ziad Rahbani, Naseer Shamma, Ross Daly, and the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. During this time he co-founded and co-produced several ensembles and albums, as well as traveled extensively around the region for concerts in Dubai, Turkey, Greece, Tunisia, Oman, Algeria, Senegal, Syria, and Western Europe. Active in studios as well, Miles worked with composer Khaled Mouzannar as music consultant and instrumentalist on the score to Nadine Labaki’s latest film “Where do we go Now,” an official selection of both Sundance and Cannes. Throughout all of this valuable experience, Miles focused on re-imagining the bass’s role both as an accompanying instrumental and as a melodic lead, adapting a wide range of Arabic, Greek, and Turkish ornamentation to develop his own extended technique when playing with a bow.

LUKE NOTARY, Percussion
Luke Notary began to play the drums at a very early age with his father. He later studied with such masters as Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Hamza El Din, and Jamey Haddad. His experience has brought him around the world to teach and perform. Most recently, Luke toured the world performing for millions with Cirque du Soleil's "Varekai."

Luke composed and performed the live musical scores for “The Late Henry Moss”, (written by Sam Shepard and directed by the legendary Joseph Chaiken) and “The Long Christmas Ride Home”,(by Pulitzer Prize winning playrite Paula Vogel). He has composed many original works for New York and Los Angeles based dance companies, and currently works with Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and David Parsons Dance Company. He has taught drumming workshops to actors, dancers and musicians in Germany, Russia, Belgium, France, Los Angeles, and New York.
