'Kakehashi' is a documentary about the culinary endeavors and life story of James Beard Awards winner, Chef Nobuo Fukuda. Born & raised in Machida, Japan, Chef Nobuo struggled to fit within the strict culture & moved to the United States to pursue a different life.
Over the years, he became a self-taught chef, returning often to Japan to source & learn about ingredients. He would combine these Japanese ingredients with Western execution and vice versa, providing guests with a taste of both worlds at his Arizona-based restaurant, 'Nobuo at Teeter House.'
His dream & hope was to always be 'kakehashi,' to bridge the gap between both Japanese & American cuisine.
A film by Andrew Gooi.
