Event description

Description

The Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association (NaHHA) invites you to the inaugural Ka Huina, a full day of conversations and presentations at the intersection of tradition and innovation.

Ka Huina – where community, culture, tourism and sustainbility all converge, and at times, collide.

Session Topics:

International Year of Indigenous Languages: The United Nations designated 2019 to recognize the value that indigenous languages bring to the world. Four decades after the language revitalization movement began in earnest, how is ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i doing, and what’s next?

Hawaiʻi on the World Stage: With our islands seen more and more on television and in movies, and Hawaiian actors, performers and athletes at the highest and most visible levels of their fields, what is the spotlight’s impact on and potential for Hawai‘i?

Conscious Stewardship of Cultural Treasures: As our recognition of the importance of cultural treasures continues to grow, so does the kuleana associated with stewardship of those treasures – whether special places, artifacts, or intellectual property.

The Evolution of Cultural Representation: The presence of Hawaiian culture in the visitor industry has shifted over the years as more people are culturally conscious than ever, and as both residents and visitors demand more authentic representation.

Plus shop in our Hana Lima Avenue, a room dedicated to made in Hawaiʻi vendors that represent Ka Huina.

Updates on the 2019 Legislature, Visitor Industry Statistics, Future of the Ala Wai, and The Mālama Mandate.
