Hear what superintendents are saying about crowd-based innovation...

Dr. David Krenz (Austin - Twin Cities Exurban/Rural district - 4,981 students)

“Austin Public Schools has identified innovation as one of its core values. To this end, we are excited to have implemented our crowd-sourced innovation effort, the Thought Luck. It provides us with the unique opportunity to engage all staff in looking for improvement efforts while also informing our strategic planning process in a new and unique way. It truly offers us a way to genuinely meet our mission to Engage, Empower, and Inspire.”

Dr. Mark Larson (Mahtomedi - St. Paul Suburban district - 3,230 students)

"Working with the Optum Ignite Team and other districts collaboratively, we were able to get terrific ideas by utilizing the wisdom of the crowd. This provided us with an opportunity to comb through the data, get suggestions and ideas and strategically target specific initiatives or opportunities that connect with our larger school district vision."

Dr. Stephen Malone (Becker - Twin Cities Exurban/Rural district - 2,804 students)

“The crowd sourced innovation program has unleashed the creative potential of our staff, introduced and embedded innovation into the culture of our organization. We have launched many successful innovation initiatives in our district as a result of the crowd sourced program. Best of all, most of these do not increase our operational budget.”

Dr. Ray Queener (Cambridge/Isanti - Twin Cities Exurban/Rural district - 5,000 students)

“While we are still finalizing our first cycle of the new process of Bluejacket Brainstorm, it is evident that this could continue to evolve into our strategic planning process. The fluidity provided in allowing staff to propose solutions, identify the root problem, brainstorm other options all through human-centered design thinking, allows for planning and ideas to be vetted unlike any strategic planning process I have seen.”

Dr. Josh Swanson (Eden Prairie - Minneapolis Suburban district - 9,000 students)

“Our collaborative partnership with fellow public-school districts to engage in innovation work has contributed significantly to our strategic work to empower employees for the purpose of realizing our mission. By using crowd-based innovation it puts our employees in the driver seat to identify problems, think about solutions, and take action that benefits students and our community.”
