Event description

Description

Come and learn about the fruit and vegetable production research being conducted at the K-State Olathe Horticulture Research and Extension Center (OHREC). Bring your walking shoes for this event, as we will take a detailed tour of the center's trial fields, with presentations from faculty and students discussing their research on:

  • tomato and pepper grafting,
  • sweetpotato slip production,
  • high tunnel crop rotations,
  • produce quality and shelf life,
  • cultivar evaluation,
  • cover cropping strategies,
  • and the effects of different greenhouse plastics on vegetable nutritional quality.

Crops being grown at OHREC include: tomatoes, bell peppers, sweetpotatoes, blueberries, melons and other mixed plantings. We will also be displaying our mobile produce cooler, a new "Rolling Thunder" moveable high tunnel by Rimol Greenhouses, along with new commercial grading and washing equipment.

After the tour, stay for a cookout in the shade and help us celebrate this year's Growing Growers' apprenticeship graduates! Meal included in the cost of attendance. Comments or Questions? -contact growers@ksu.edu
