Event description

Description

ABOUT Join us for an evening of free professional development for all K-12 educators: in-service and pre-service teachers, educational aides, administrators, and librarians.

We will spend the workshop exploring Frida Kahlo from a personal perspective. The event will include a free public screening and conversational tour focusing on the exhibition, Frida Kahlo - Her Photos, currently on view at the UNM Art Museum. The exhibit features a rare and extensive selection of Kahlo’s personal photographs that allows for a more nuanced, complex and personal understanding of the beloved cultural icon.

Teachers will spend the first half of the night watching a rare documentary film which explores the life and continued influence of the artist. After the screening, participants will move to the galleries and guide one another in a ‘flipped’ tour, leading discussions about Kahlo inspired by prompts and deeper readings of the exhibition.

Certificates of professional development will be given and dinner will be provided.

SPONSORS This workshop is organized by the UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute and UNM Art Museum in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes of Albuquerque, National Hispanic Cultural Center, and Spanish Resource Center of Albuquerque. It is supported by the US Department of Education Title VI.
