Description

OVERVIEW

Concrete Safaris' JungleGym 2019 Summer Series, a NYC DOT Weekend Walks event, is a fun, challenging race and active living fair for children and families. The race has a 20-obstacle course, and is designed by the 7-12-year-olds in Concrete Safaris' City Surfers after school program and led by our 14-24-year-old Outdoor Leadership Academy Interns.

Are you fit enough to race through their imaginations?

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Children (ages 5+), teens, and adults will have the opportunity to compete in Concrete Safaris' 6th annual JungleGym obstacle race and 10th Birthday Party as they hop, leap, crawl, and wiggle through the course. The obstacle course and activities are on pavement combined with stops along the way for challenging fun to keep you smiling start to finish.

Registration online or at the event is required for all who wish to participate in this race. Concrete Safaris STRONGLY ADVISES online registration in advance of event date, if possible. Registrations for all racers under the age of 18 must be completed by a parent or guardian. Complete the race and then have all access to the Active Living Fair. The first 100 youth registrants at each event will receive a free t-shirt.

All participants must wear sneakers that completely cover their feet. No sandals, heels, or dress shoes are permitted.

This is a great time to encourage your kids to take up running and do great things for their community!

STRATEGY

Whatever your skill level, children (ages 5+) and families are welcome to test the race course. Come ready to get a great workout! Each race wave will be the first 3-5 racers at the start line.

Join us for the Active Living Fair, which may include face painting, FDNY smoke house, music, the NYPD rock wall, East Harlem based community organizations, arts & crafts, games, prizes, and a ton of fun! Activities at each event will vary.

All participants are encouraged to wear an active superhero or superheroine costume that can get dirty. Racers and volunteers must wear sneakers that completely cover their feet. No sandals, heels, or dress shoes are permitted.

TIPS

KID-FRIENDLY SUPERHERO OR SUPERHEROINE COSTUMES ARE ENCOURAGED!

There are a few simple rules:
1. It is mandatory that you end your race with a dance move.
2. Trying every obstacle will make you a super hero(ine) for the day.
3. Spectators are encouraged to cheer for all participants.
4. Keep the day positive. Teamwork and perseverance are more important than winning at this race.

YOUR DONATIONS

Proceeds from Concrete Safaris' JungleGym 2019 Summer Series will support free, active after school and summer programming for East Harlem children and youth.
