Join us Wednesday, June 12 at 11:45 a.m. at The University Club for our June chapter meeting and luncheon. Our guest speaker will be Erik Jambor, executive director for Indie Memphis - the annual film festival known the world over for inspiring films, features and shorts. Erik will share the story of how the local annual event has grown to be “One of the 25 Coolest Film Festivals” (MovieMaker Magazine, 2009).
About Erik Jambor
For more than 15 years, Erik has led non-profit community-based regional film festivals in the South and Pacific Northwest corners of the country -- all three of which were ranked as one of MovieMaker magazine's "25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" during his tenure. In 1999, he co-founded the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival in Birmingham, Alabama, serving as Director for its first eight years and growing the event into a filmmaker favorite and one of Time Magazine's "Film Festivals For the Rest of Us." In 2007 he moved to Bend, Oregon, to run the BendFilm Festival, where he created a program that The Oregonian called "the best crop of fictional features yet to screen at BendFilm." Since 2008, Erik has served as Executive Director of Indie Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, which runs year-round programming and special events, including the annual Indie Memphis Film Festival, presented by Duncan-Williams, Inc. The 2012 festival attracted a record-setting crowd of more than 11,000 attendees and was named a named a "Top 20 Event" by the Southeast Tourism Society. Most recently Indie Memphis received its second “Film Festival Worth the Entry Fee” ranking in the Spring 2013 issue of MovieMaker. Erik has served on numerous film festival juries, including SXSW, Slamdance, Atlanta, Nashville and the Biografilm Festival in Bologna, Italy.

One of the city's core arts institutions, Indie Memphis connects and inspires indie filmmakers and film-lovers through the unique creative landscape that is the home of the Blues and the birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll. Now entering its 15th year, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization is a two-time Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences grant recipient, receives project support from the Tennessee Arts Commission, and is the only film organization to receive annual funding from ArtsMemphis.

Set in Overton Square in Midtown Memphis, the city's cultural and creative center and home to a plethora of restaurants, bars and clubs, the 2011 festival attracted a record-setting crowd of more than 8,000 attendees with high-profile screenings including "Undefeated" and "Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory," both nominated for Oscars for Best Documentary Feature at the 2012 Academy Awards.

The Memphis chapter of the Public Relations Society of America is a melting pot of close to 200 communicators in positions with large corporations, small private companies, consulting firms, nonprofit agencies, educational institutions and free-lancers.
The Memphis Chapter was founded in 1952 when about 10 professionals met at the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis. Today, more than 50 years later, almost 200 members meet throughout the year for programs, professional development seminars, awards programs and socials.
The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), headquartered in New York City, is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals. The society's more than 19,000 members represent business and industry, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.
Since it was chartered in 1947, PRSA has continued to provide a forum for addressing issues affecting the profession and the resources for promoting the highest professional standards. It offers unequalled opportunities for improving skills and gaining knowledge, as well as for the exchange of information and experiences with other public relations professionals.
