Be Kind to Monarchs Art Adventure
About this event
The June project focuses on Monarchs. Participants will get a first-hand lesson on Monarch butterflies and make their own origami butterfly. Hannibal resident Tammy Nichols will speak about the life cycle of a Monarch and bring live eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis and adult Monarchs to showcase and talk about an important plant to the butterflies, the milkweed. Participants will be given milkweed seeds to take home to start their own butterfly garden. In addition, guest artist Ling Go will lead the group in a special origami project. Starting with a simple sheet of paper—featuring various colors, prints and patterns—participants will practice the art form’s intricate folding and sculpting techniques to ultimately create their own origami butterfly.
Participation fees are $5 per participant. Scholarships for free participation are available. To register, contact the Hannibal Arts Council at 573-221-6545, stop by 105 S. Main St or go online to https://hannibalartscouncil.eventbrite.com.
