About this Event

Race Forward is pleased to offer up dedicated racial affinity spaces and gatherings for white-identified leaders in the NYC arts sector who are interested in deepening their leadership for racial equity.

The Racial Equity in the Arts Innovation Lab will host two affinity spaces for white leaders through two in-person gatherings, and two web-based meetings.

Dates are:

  • In-person affinity space meeting on April 3rd, 2019 - with lunch from 12pm-3pm
  • In-person affinity space meeting on June 25th, 2019 from 2pm-5pm
  • 90 minute web/Zoom meeting on September 24th, 2019 from 1pm-2:30pm ET
  • 90 minute web meeting on October 22nd, 2019 from 1pm-2:30pm ET

For white people, a caucus provides space to work explicitly on understanding white culture and white privilege and to increase one’s critical analysis and accountability. Dedicated spaces for racial affinity conversations and also puts the onus on white people to teach each other about race and racism, rather than relying on people of color to teach them.

The affinity group for white leaders in the arts will be hosted and facilitated jointly by Terry Keleher, Director of Strategic Innovation at RaceForward, and Jeyn Levison, Senior VP of Development and Partnership at RaceForward in New York City. Jeyn will not be able to attend on June 25th.

Attendance is free and lunch with be served on April 3rd.
