JUNE 24 - 2017-2018 Space of Her Own Mentor Information Session
Event Information
Description
Space of Her Own Alexandria and Arlington are gearing up to kick off the 2017-2018 school year with a phenomenal class of mentors. We hope you'll join us for an information session to learn more about how our program is structured, what our expectations are for mentors, the youth we serve, and how you can apply to become a mentor with Space of Her Own.
Using art as the catalyst, SOHO seeks to create an environment in which youth feel free to express themselves, step outside of their comfort zone, and grow. By pairing mentors on-on-one with mentees to create art together each week, we hope to create the foundation that can serve for a long-lasting bond and mentoring relationship. Mentors and mentees work on an array of projects throughout the year, found object self-portraits, photography, and carpentry projects, all with the purpose of creating the products that will be used to give each girl a true Space of Her Own. At the end of the year, mentors work in pairs to use all of the pieces that they've developed together with their mentees to makeover the living space of each girl.
Visit www.spaceofherown.org for more information. If you are unable to attend, but are still interested in mentoring with SOHO please contact Sarah Maroney at Sarah.Maroney@alexandriava.gov or by phone at 703.746.4687.
