"Legal Process Improvement: Going Lean Without Getting Heavy"

Legal departments routinely experience increased workload expectations despite already constrained resources stretched too thin. This presents an unsustainable model for legal departments. As a result, in-house lawyers must make trade-offs on client requests, often deprioritizing meeting deadlines and quick turnaround in favor of quality work product. This creates "business drag" decrease in business value or profitability due to legal work arriving too late to provide any real value. Join this webinar to get step-by-step instructions for improving legal department processes through systematic identification of legal department workflow inefficiencies; prioritization of process improvements that solve true drivers of inefficiency and benefit the company; and low-effort, high-impact elimination of process inefficiencies.

Objectives

  • Conduct and review responses for the Anatomy of a World-Class Legal Operations Function
  • Review decision factors in determining what work Legal does
  • Examine different approaches to evaluating processes
  • Demonstrate identification and elimination of process inefficiencies
  • Examine MassMutual's experiences with applying lean principles

Webinar Speaker: Aaron Kotok, JD, is a practice leader at CEB, where he helps general counsel, heads of legal operations, heads of litigation, and other senior executives navigate their daily legal department and management challenges. CEB's position at the center of a network of more than a thousand senior legal and risk management executives has provided him with a bird's-eye view of the challenges and successes of leading legal departments at the world’s best companies. Prior to joining CEB, Kotok was a vice president at Gerson Lehrman Group, where he worked closely with managing partners, lawyers and chief marketing officers at many of North America’s largest law firms to connect them with cutting-edge subject-matter expertise.  Previously, Aaron was an associate in the real estate transactions practice at Venable LLP in Washington, DC.
