Do We Believe What We Hear, or Do We Hear What We Believe?

~ A Look Into the 'Secret' of Stradivari ~

Please join us for an insightful presentation on the challenges of crafting and repairing stringed instruments. Andreas is the only Westerner to graduate from the Tokyo Violin Making School under Zoroku Murata, the first Japanese to earn the rank of meister. Andreas will walk us through his journey from apprentice to meister – from Tokyo through Germany, Hungary, France, the United States and back to Tokyo where he now has his own workshop. He will share his observations and show the instruments of his craft. According to Andreas, “We need to ‘ask the wood’ first, as I believe the old masters did.” Andreas has kindly arranged for Ms Eriko Iso to play a short solo piece in two sections to help us appreciate the sound of a well-crafted violin.

Speaker: Mr Andreas Pruess (Luthier)
Violinist: Ms Eriko Iso
