日程 Schedule (subject to change)

9:00-9:15: Opening Remarks

9:15-10:30: Promoting Classroom Interaction –Ilse Griffin

Students’ vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and confidence develop faster when there are many opportunities for interaction in the classroom using the language being learned. Interaction among students is crucial in the language acquisition process. The presenter will demonstrate several reusable activities for promoting classroom interaction.

10:45-12:00: Interactive Pronunciation Activities –John Maruschak

Do you specifically teach pronunciation in your lessons? Do you think explicit pronunciation practice is useful/important for students? How can you integrate practical pronunciation practice into your everyday lessons? This teacher workshop will provide an opportunity for you to brainstorm and share simple, effective and fun classroom pronunciation activities that you use in your classrooms. Adding regular pronunciation activities, such as warm ups, short drills and exit activities to your classes can ultimately increase students’ overall communication competencies and confidence in speaking.

12:00-13:30 Lunch Break

13:30-14:45: So What’s the Main Idea, Anyway? – Ilse Griffin

Being able to identify important information or main ideas is an important academic skill that many students struggle with. The presenter will introduce several activities that help develop this skill across all four language skills.

15:00-16:15 Effective Listening and NotetakingJohn Maruschak

Listening is a skill that should be explicitly taught, since 80 percent of what you know is learned by listening. What are some listening tips and ways to improve your listening skills? What are some questions you can ask yourself while listening? What are some suggestions for taking good notes? This workshop will dive into the nuts and bolts of good listening and notetaking.

Effective notetaking is not only necessary to organize key ideas and information, but it also becomes a tool needed for future study and review. Both listening and notetaking should habitual and we will focus on ways to improve both of these important academic skills.

16:15-16:30 Closing Remarks
