This series will be lead by Catherine Palma, Founder and Principal Consultant at Higher Ground Associates.  Catherine has worked in Human Resources, recruiting and executive search for over 15 years.  During these seminars she will share her insider perspective on what recruiters and hiring managers are really looking for, while offering individualized advice to help you achieve the results you’re seeking in your job search. 



My Story

I remember the first time I was laid off from a job.  It caught me completely by surprise.  I was angry, confused and fearful about how I would make ends meet.  I didn’t know anyone who had been through a layoff and I didn’t have a clue where or how to begin a job search.  Since I worked in Human Resources, I probably had a better idea than most so I muddled my way through and, thankfully, landed safely a short time later.


Fast forward several years.  I had been doing executive search and technical recruiting for 10 years.  The work was interesting and the job market was booming.  I had more work than I could handle. 


Then “It” happened – the worst recession the US has seen in decades.  Almost overnight I was flooded with resumes from highly qualified candidates.  My heart went out to them, but I had very few job orders and no place to refer them.


Even more frustrating was seeing these candidates make the same common mistakes over and over again that were hindering their chances at landing that next perfect job.  If only they knew what I knew . . .


Then it hit me – I can teach them what I know!  And so my job seeker coaching practice was born in the fall of 2009. 


This is some of the most rewarding and challenging work I have ever done and I enjoy it immensely, but I realized that I could only reach a limited number of people.  Individual coaching can be time intensive, and sometimes cost prohibitive.

If such services are not available, the dispute shall be submitted to arbitration in accordance with the laws of the State of Pennsylvania. The arbitrator's award shall be final, and judgment may be entered upon it by any court having jurisdiction thereof.  Whether through mediation, arbitration or other forms of recourse, under no circumstances shall any damages awarded to Client exceed the total amount of fees paid to Higher Ground Associates for the services under dispute.
