Description

Introduction to the Course

  • Rope Skipping is a simple skill to learn that isn’t just for kids! Athletes have been using rope skipping for many years as part of their conditioning programs. With the popularity of boxercise classes, many group fitness participants have been exposed to basic skipping – although most likely without a rope.

  • During this course, participants will learn how to safely teach many rope skipping techniques and skills as well as acquire these skills themselves.

  • Application to personal training and group fitness classes will be explained and demonstrated. Sample choreography combinations for basic and intermediate level participants are also included in this manual.

  • Modifications to accommodate various fitness levels in the same group fitness class are incorporated.

  • Conditioning, interval training and challenge activities will also be discussed and demonstrated.

Benefits for Fitness Professionals

  • Give your clients something new!

  • Whether working with beginners or advanced exercisers, client retention for private trainers and clubs alike requires continual challenge and change.

  • Including rope skipping workouts will ensure that your clients have a new kind of workout to enjoy that can be adapted – even in the same class – for different fitness levels. And, your clients can take this activity anywhere.

  • The suggested aerobics program that is detailed in this manual allows for the steps to be performed with skipping with a rope or alternative as a high or low impact activity. Low impact alternatives are included in the warm up phase so that participants are at ease with these modifications.

  • Most participants new to skipping will find it a challenge to complete all of the choreography using a skipping rope. Thus, a goal for a new participant may be to increase the amount of the workout they can complete with a rope, with the remaining choreography completed using low or high impact “ropeless” moves.

  • For personal trainers, challenge your client to utilize more advanced skipping techniques beyond the simple jump that will be more effective and efficient, also improving balance, agility, coordination, etc. As will be discussed, this can be incorporated into kickboxing, circuit or just the cardio component of the workout.
