Description

Join Make Studio Martin to learn how to make beautiful, wonderful smelling soap at home, using natural oils. Martin will explain the soap making process, the history of soap, how you can source ingredients to make it at home, and some anecdotes about things he's learned as he makes a batch of cold-processed soap. Each participant will leave with a soap recipe, a bar of hand-made soap, and some great clean memories! Ages 13 and up.

When: Thursday, January 19th, 7-8 PM

Where: JUMP Share Studio on the 1st floor.

Cost: This one session demo class is $15. You may pay a $20 drop in fee at the door if there is availability, check the registration page for remaining tickets.

Martin Sarasqueta is the Make studio coordinator at JUMP and has been, among other things, a pizza maker in Stanley, a bartender and sandal maker in the Caribbean, a custom furniture designer and builder in California, and a soap maker in Boise. When not tinkering with tools, he makes music no one wants to hear, grows too much food in his garden, makes really delicious gin, thinks way too much about soil, tries not to die skateboarding, and walks around collecting and scattering wildflower seeds on walks in the evening with his wife and dog.

What inspires you?

"Creativity, on any level, and unique innovation and problem solving inspire me. Give 100 people a task and ten tools, and you'll get eight different unique processes. I love picking apart the process and understanding why and how people do what they do. Craftsmanship is inspiring. People devoting their lives to perfecting a craft or trade. The world is full of beautiful, amazing things, from a perfect weld to a carefully curated bonsai tree to homemade croquetas. I love croquetas, mmmmm."

FAQs

What is JUMP?

JUMP – or Jack’s Urban Meeting Place – is a not-for-profit, interactive creative center and community gathering place in the heart of downtown Boise. Please go to jumpboise.org to learn more.

This class is out of my price range, what can I do?

Offering affordable opportunities to everyone in the community is a key priority. We appreciate your patience as we work to develop a scholarship program.

Do you have accommodations for people with disabilities?

Absolutely. We support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and encourage participation by everyone. If you require special accommodations to participate in our programs or use our facilities, please email programs@jumpboise.org.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

You may bus, bike, drive, walk, skip, etcetera. Check Boise's bus schedule at valleyride.org. We love bikers and have beautiful bike racks to secure your ride throughout the facility. Apologies, but our parking garage is still under construction and we do not have on-site parking at the moment. Paid parking will be available in the future. Parking options include the BoDo parking garage at 9th and Front and the garage by Hotel 43 located at 234 S 10th Street and Front. Please use the crosswalk at 9th and Broad Street to access JUMP. ADA parking available onsite, please email requests to programs@jumpboise.org.

What is the refund policy?

We depend on your enrollment for a successful class so please plan your schedule carefully. Classes which do not meet minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation. Refunds are issued in full if the class or program is cancelled, if you cancel at least seven days before the starting date of the class, or for documented medical reasons.
