Event Details

With so much attention right now on the Tour de France (Vive la Tour!), Bicycle Habitat Women's Cycling is paying respect to the world of women's professional racing by hosting a ride in NYC the day before La Course takes place on the streets of Paris.

La Course is a one day, 89 kilometer women's professional road race put on by the Tour de France. Now in its third year, the female peloton will ride 13 laps of a 7k course. Among the 21 teams selected for this event is Boels Dolman, the Specialized sponsored team that includes NYC hometown hero Evelyn Stevens, who is the current UCI hour record holder for women. Evelyn worked on Wall Street and started her racing career in Central Park on Radical Media Women's Racing, a Bicycle Habitat sponsored team. With so many personal connections here, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to offer the NYC women's community the ride options listed below.

All registered riders receive 10% off bikes and accessories up unitl the day of the ride! Bring your registration email to any Bicycle Habitat location.

Please RSVP here, and complete this waiver as part of the signup process. Please note: your registration is not complete until the waiver is signed.

Both rides meet at 8am at the Soho store for 8:15am rollout (250 Lafayette St, Manhattan).

La Course Ride (89 kilometers / 55 miles)

Join us for a classic NYC road ride to 9W Market. This is a structured group ride where riders will be asked to maintain an average speed of no less than 15 mph. The group speed will be 15-18 mph. Road bikes and foot retention proficiency required. We will be riding as a group, so experience drafting and riding in a paceline is expected. The pace will be fun and social for those who are conditioned to faster pace riding, and challenging for others. If you anticipate the ride may be challenging for you, please attend one of our park rides and talk to the ride leader (or send us an email).

We will head up the West Side Bike Path and Riverside Drive to the GWB. We will regroup on the NJ side of the bridge before continuing to the 9W Market where we will have a snack before heading back. Expect consistent riding and limited stopping. Note: This is a drop ride (as opposed to "no-drop"), which means the ride will not stop for slower riders to catch up (cue sheets will be provided). Riders are expected to stay together and maintain the same pace. Coaching direction will be given as needed. Ride requirements: prior knowledge of the route and confidence riding in a double paceline.

Red Lighthouse Ride (35 kilometers / 22 miles)

This ride is geared towards fitness riders, hybrid riders, and beginner road riders. All reasonable bikes in good working condition are welcome. This route is tried and true, and a scenic way to enjoy NYC by bike. It heads up the West Side Bike Path to the Red Lighthouse on the Manhattan side of the GWB. After a quick stretch, we will head back together. The pace will be casual (10-12mph) and no participant will be left behind. New riders welcome!

A limited number of demo bikes are available. If you're interested in trying out a carbon women's road bike or a women's hybrid, email womenscycling@bicyclehabitat.com.

We are looking forward to sharing another fun Saturday on bikes with you! If you have any questions, email us at womenscycling@bicyclehabitat.com.

The mission of Bicycle Habitat Women’s Cycling is to connect and inspire all levels of women/trans/femme (WTF) cyclists, from beginner to advanced, and to create a lifelong community of riders in New York City and beyond. We believe in cycling as a way to create enjoyment in our lives, and are focused on forming a movement backed by the commitment and support of a full-service, women-focused bike shop. Through organized rides, in-store clinics, and events, we will thread together a network of expert leaders who communicate our values and share their passion for cycling with others.
