Description

Greetings!

Come hear from State Board of Education Leaders, including Executive Director Randy Spaulding and Board Member Paul Pitre.

Linda Drake, SBE’s director of career and college ready initiatives, will lead the presentation on high school graduation requirements. From initiatives that begin in 8th grade, such as the High School and Beyond Plan, to the latest graduation requirements, you will learn important information on how Black students can earn a meaningful diploma.

The purpose of the Washington State Board of Education is to:

  • Provide advocacy and strategic oversight of public education;

  • Implement a standards-based accountability system to improve student academic achievement;

  • Provide leadership in the creation of a system that personalized education for each student and respects diverse cultures, abilities, and learning styles; and

  • Promote achievement of the Basic Education Act goals of RCW 28A.150.210

BESR Quarterly Workshops

Our quarterly gatherings have been mixtures of information sharing, collecting your input on our strategic directions and recommending actions members can take to impact educational outcomes for Black students. To strengthen our commitment to taking action, our quarterly gatherings are renamed BESR Quarterly Workshops. From each gathering, attendees will receive actionable information they can use at their local schools, with their school districts, or with state-level organizations such as the State Board of Education or OSPI.

Sincerely,

BESR Board of Directors and Staff.
