Do your kids like to cook? Are you looking for ways to be healthier as a family? Did you know kids who eat regular meals with their family eat more fruits, vegetables AND earn better test scores in school?
McLane Children’s Family, Food & Fun! is a free, hands-on wellness education program:
-Weekly interactive cooking demonstrations with healthy, budget-friendly meals
-Exciting Kids Cooking Competition with Celebrity Judges
-Interactive games promoting health benefits of nutrition & fitness
-FUN family fitness demonstrations with music, superheroes, and more...
Available for children (ages 8-15) and their families. The 4- week course is held at the Killeen Family Recreation Center on Thursday nights. (Note: families with children younger than 8 may register, as long as at least one child is between the ages of 8-15.)
By registering for this event, you're agreeing to attend all 4 required sessions, from 6-8pm. Be sure to add these dates/times to your family schedule:
Mandatory Welcome Night: Wednesday, June 28, 6-6:30pm
Thursday, July 6, 5:45-8pm
Thursday, July 13, 6-8pm
Thursday, July 20, 6-8pm
Thursday, July 27, 5:45-8pm
(Note: If you are unable to attend every session, please register for another upcoming course.)
Sessions: Each session begins promptly at 6:00p and ends at 8pm. At weeks 1 & 4, participants complete a brief assessment survey, biometrics (height, weight, waist measures), and fitness assessment (half mile, sit-ups, and jumping jacks).
Nutrition: Each week, participants will learn new information and prepare a fun recipe. Children are invited to participate in meal preparation to learn about cooking, kitchen safety, and nutrition. Families enjoy healthy meals while learning more about health benefits of nutrition and exercise. At week 4, children participate in a Cooking Competition and celebrity judges will determine a winning dish!
Fitness: Each week, participants will participate in a fitness demonstration. Demonstrations are suitable for any fitness level and voluntary.
Resources: Participants will be provided a workbook at the first session, complete with activity sheets, resources, and recipes referenced in the course.
