Event description

Description

Please join us for our 4th Annual Judy’s Mission Possible Luncheon. Co-chairing the event are Dan and Eleanor Gilbane and Danny and Isabel David. The couples are passionate about raising funds to fight ovarian cancer because both families lost mothers to the disease. Dr. Anil Sood, Professor and Vice Chair for Translational Research in the Departments of Gynecologic Oncology and Cancer Biology at MD Anderson will serve as Honorary Chair. KHOU 11 Anchor, Rekha Muddaraj will serve as emcee.

The event will feature contemporary American fiction author and Houston native, Katherine Center as keynote speaker. Katherine is the author of six novels, including the instant USA Today and New York Times bestseller How to Walk Away, Happiness for Beginners and The Lost Husband (currently being adapted into a movie) filmed on location in Austin and Round Top in late 2018 with an expected release in 2019. Katherine is especially gifted at “laughter through tears.” Her novels often begin with catastrophe and then draw even the most unsuspecting reader into page-turning humor and romance as they learn how the female heroine finds her strength and recovers.

Funds raised at this event will support the following initiatives:

Local facilitation of Survivors Teaching Students: Saving Women's Lives ®, a program created by the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance to educate medical and nursing schools on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer from actual patients.

Social media campaigns on Facebook and Instagram to promote ovarian cancer education and awareness. Through campaigns like our B4S4 (Before Stage Four) and Faces of Ovarian Cancer, thousands of women are being made aware of the risks, signs and symptoms of the disease which takes more than 14,000 lives in the U.S. each year.

A Young Investigator Grant to discover effective early screening and detection tools which do not currently exist.
