Judy Estrin on Serial Success & the Future of Innovation
Join us for an intimate evening with Internet pioneer and Silicon Valley leader, Judy Estrin. The event will raise funds for RailsBridge, a San Francisco-based non-profit focused on fostering diversity in tech, hosted by Galvanize, a startup ecosystem and coding school, with matching funds to be provided by Vail Resorts.
Location: Galvanize Theater - 543 Howard Street (SOMA)
Date: Monday, April 7th
6:00 pm - VIP Dinner
7:30 pm - Main Event featuring Judy Estrin, followed by Q&A
Estrin has co-founded eight technology companies and served as the CTO of Cisco Systems as well as on the boards of directors of The Walt Disney Company and FedEx Corporation. While at Stanford, she was a member of the research team, led by Vint Cerf, that developed the initial TCP protocols. She was involved in the early standardization efforts of the Ethernet and a key player in developing the commercial local area network and internet markets.
She will share stories from the early days of the Internet, from the invention of TCP/IP in an academic setting, to creating one of the first commercial local area network systems, to building companies that defined the infrastructure for the World Wide Web of today. Estrin will also share some thoughts about the state of innovation and the Internet looking forward.
About RailsBridge: We teach people to code because we believe that the people making technology should reflect the diversity of those using it. We believe in all kinds of diversity in tech: gender, race, sexual orientation, ability, and class. We value acceptance, enthusiasm, and hard work. The RailsBridge community thrives on optimism and a love for making great things. RailsBridge is a 301c3 organization through Bridge Foundry, a program of School Factory, an organization that creates and supports communities and spaces that transform education.
About Galvanize: Through collaborative-based community, an immersive software development skills platform (gSchool) and entrepreneur-focused educational programs, Galvanize creates a “co-learning” campus for digital entrepreneurs and innovators. Galvanize is harnessing the network effect for digital entrepreneurs with campuses in Denver, Boulder and San Francisco.
