Six spaces available to attend Juan de Dios Mora linocut demonstration.
This event will be in person and masks will be required. Maximum capacity of six people.
Juan de Dios Mora will demonstrate his carving and printing techniques on a unique linoleum block. Tickets to this event are $225 each, and each audience member will receive a signed print from an edition of 20 that will be pulled during the demonstration. The linocut pulled during the demonstration will be on paper measuring 11 x 15 inches.
Mora is a University of Texas at San Antonio senior art lecturer who was born in Yahualica, Jalisco, in Mexico and is heavily influenced by his experiences immigrating to the United States' border town of Laredo, TX. His work is features intricately carved surreal representations of a "typical" Mexican-American's life, iconography, and beliefs. Mora's objective is to bring people together with sentimental, sarcastic, and satirical themes.
Mora is the first artist with UTSA ties to be featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum (with five recently acquired linocuts). He has also been collected by the National Museum of Mexican Art (Chicago, IL), The McNay Art Museum (San Antonio, TX), Benson Latin American Collection (Austin, TX).
