Event description
JP Movie Night: A Video Valentine for JP from Rick Berlin

About this Event

Rick Berlin:

Boston cultural institution, renowned rock musician, artist, author, and JP resident.

He is also a filmmaker.

In 2007 Rick pointed a camera at his beloved hometown; interviewing friends, shopkeepers, fellow artists, neighbors and community organizers.

For the first time in 13 years we will present a public selection of those interviews with Rick providing introductions and commentary.

Additionally, Rick will show his tribute to Doyle’s (where he was waitstaff for 30 years), plus two music videos made in/about Jamaica Plain AND a reading from his book “the paragraphs.”

If you love Rick, if you love JP, if you love a celebration of the creative life, this is a show you won’t want to miss.

In 2007 Rick Berlin, often in front of the camera, picked one up himself and trained his eye on his beloved, adopted home of Jamaica Plain. Interviewing community organizers, artists, shop owners, friends, co-workers and the working people around him, Rick documented a place in time that was seeing many changes, and has seen many changes in the thirteen years since.

What was JP then, and where might it be heading?

JP Movie Night is proud to show a selection of Rick's films, with Rick himself offering introductions, explanations and commentary - along with some music videos and a reading from his autobiography "the paragraphs."

Above is a compilation from Rick's video series which also serves as a preview for our March 7th show.
