Saturday 1:15 - 2:15

Practical Queer and Trans Theology with Soulforce

This workshop builds your skillset for "queering" your theological practice in order to craft your own liberating canon as you work for social justice in the context of faith. You will come out braver and more grounded in the scriptures and your lived experience as you continue the fight for spiritual justice, not only for LGBTQI people but for all who must confront Christian Supremacy.

Encouraging Your Church Towards Open and Affirming

Hear the stories of four congregations as they moved towards an “Open and Affirming” policy -- and beyond. Tackle questions like: how do you know the time is right? What sort of process leads to positive dialog and a stronger congregation? What are the biggest hurdles and what is most helpful in addressing the them? Receive a resource list and proven tips on the kind of language moves conflicted Christians towards greater openness.

Saturday 2:30-3:30

Breaking Open Biblical Literalism with Soulforce

This workshop explains in accessible language the thread of biblical literalism and other thought patterns that infuse our political and cultural conversations. We examine the "fundamentalist mindset" so that conversations become less frustrating and more productive. This session is less about any specific Biblical verse and more about the theological, cultural, and ethical container in which we are working toward dialogue.

Liturgy for the Self: Finding God Outside of the Church with Lauren Sotolongo of Brave Commons

Faith and God have consistently been co-opted in the interest of the powerful, and the institution of the Church has suffered. This workshop is intended as a place to discuss the ways we have found God outside of the church as people of faith, and outline practical steps we can take to create our own liturgical practices.

Saturday 3:45 – 4:45

Queer 101: Everything You Always Wanted to Know… and Now You Can Ask! A panel representing the broad diversity of LGBTQI+ fields your questions in a frank, moderated discussion of… what do all these letters mean for our lives in 2018? Hear the honest, inside perspective in a space safe for both inquiry and diversity.

Keynote Speakers include Haven Herrin, Executive Director of Soulforce, and Justin Lee, Author and Founder of the Gay Christian Network. Our sponsors and partners include Soulforce, University of Lynchburg, Brave Commons, and Coalition for HIV Awareness and Prevention.

This event is free and open to the public.
