Description

Concert Summary

Join the 18th Street Singers on a musical experience that explores the many different journeys we take throughout our lives. Themes of this concert include traveling the roads that lead us home, grappling with feelings of distance and longing for loved ones, and spiritual journeys that help us to better understand ourselves.

Featuring a mix of genres, the 18th Street Singers will perform works by Robert Schumann, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Moses Hogan, Pärt Uusberg, Stephen Paulus, Ted Hearne, and more. Highlights of this performance will include "Santiago" from Path of Miracles by Joby Talbot and Underneath the Stars by Kate Runsby, originally performed by Voces8, as well as the DC premieres of "The New Colossus" by local composer and 18th Street Singer Michael Austin and "Awake My Heart, To Be Loved" by Artistic Director Benjamin Olinsky.

Community Giveback

In gratitude to our DC choir home at First Trinity Lutheran Church and in support of the journeys that many DC residents and families are fighting through, the 18th Street Singers will be donating one third of every ticket sold for this concert series to First Trinity's Community Life Services non-profit.

Founded in 1969, Community Family Life Services, Inc. (CFLS) has provided children, families, and adults with the tools and resources needed to move beyond poverty and homelessness. CFLS also supports women who are returning home following a period of incarceration by assisting them as thye move into permanent self-sufficiency.
