Event description

Description

No relationship exists long without tensions. No community continues long without conflicts. No human interaction occurs without the possibilities of pain, injury, suffering and alienation. The hurts are always there. The misunderstandings inevitably happen. There is invariably trouble. Without forgiveness, community is only possible where people are safely and cautiously superficial. With forgiveness, we are set free to meet genuinely, to interact authentically, to risk being fully present with each other in integrity.

---David Augsburger, Caring Enough to Forgive

Forgiveness is a journey of many steps. Join us as we explore the journey toward forgiveness and ways forgiveness can transform our relationships and congregations.

This workshop will be led by Dr. Everett Worthington, a Commonwealth Professor Emeritus working from the Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is also a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Virginia.

Part 1 of this workshop will focus on understanding what it means to forgive others and self in a faith context. Consideration will be given to the benefits of forgiveness and what research teaches us about forgiveness.

Part 2 will focus on the introduction of REACH Forgiveness, a research-based model that can be used in groups, individual psychotherapy, couples, self-forgiveness and lcoal congregations.

CEU's are available through our partnership with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors - Atlantic Region.
