About this event
Introducing the inaugural JTTE Festival 2021 (live/in-person!) bringing together a superstar lineup of contemporary performance and dance over the summer event weekend (Fri Aug 27th – Sun 29th) at Tramway, CCA Glasgow and more:
Friday opening live performances features the Scottish premiere of Yingmei Duan’s Happy Yingmei. Born in China, Yingmei Duan is part of the original Chinese avant-garde from the legendary art district of Beijing’s East Village, and contemporary of Ai Weiwei and Zhang Huan.
Saturday night features the UK premiere of Frédéric Gies’ DANCE IS ANCIENT, a collaboration with Berghain resident DJ Fiedel. Drawing from their dance floor experiences in techno clubs and raves, DANCE IS ANCIENT is a durational performance that is a club night and a club night that is a performance – a live participatory evening of dance with a 4-hour DJ set.
Sunday closing highlights includes the UK premiere of Singapore-based choreographer Daniel Kok's now classic work Cheerleader of Europe, and the not to be missed Symposium research and discussion panel, featuring Yingmei Duan, Daniel Kok (aka Diskodanny), Dr Cecilia Wee, Sophia Hao, Lucy Suggate, and moderated by JTTE Artistic Director Jian Yi.
