Event description

Description

This program is made possible through funding from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

On the brink of a new age of discovery, Sam Cossman is redefining the art of exploration by leveraging technology and innovation as a force for good. Armed with a more modern set of field tools, Sam is the Indiana Jones of the digital era, uncovering the world’s most extraordinary places and sharing his knowledge to inspire positive change on a global level.

In November 2014, Sam quit his tech job in San Francisco and traveled with a team of cross disciplinary experts, including award winning videographer Conor Toumarkine, drone pioneer Simon Jardine, volcanic explorer Brad Ambrose, and PhD astrobiologist, Jeff Marlow, to the depths of one of the world’s most active volcanoes.

In an unprecedented exploratory application of drone technology, and in partnership with DJI and Pix4D, he and his team successfully generated the first of its kind 3D model of a volcanic lava lake.
