Session Descriptions

What Is Mother Culture...and Why It's So Important The first plenary will include an introduction to the phrase "Mother Culture", which was originally prompted by an article in The Parents' Review. Melissa will share her experience of life with and without Mother Culture. She has started various book groups over the years and will offer suggestions to connect with others in finding Mother Culture already existing, as well as how to begin your own.

The Most Powerful Curriculum St. Augustine defined an education in terms of training in virtue – the ordering of what we love. In the second plenary, Terri will discuss, what is a good education? How can we achieve it? She will also share the idea of self education and the most powerful “curriculum” (hint: it’s not found online). Join Terri in discovering what the absolute best teaching is and how to cultivate it!

Let's Get Real! Terri and Melissa team up in the third plenary to share parts of their day. Terri will immerse you in her Morning Time routine with multiple kids. Melissa will share her experience with living books and what to do with them. This talk will include ideas on how to use the methods of Charlotte Mason's principles with traditional and struggling learners.

Watercolor & Journaling Come explore the unique and creative world of art journaling! Chris will share tips and techniques to get you started in this expressive outlet for recording your life experiences. Journaling through art can be done with pencil, pen, or paint, and no previous art instruction is necessary to begin. Come be inspired and tap into the artist within!

Homeschooling through High School - Peg Gravrok

Third Breakout Session - To be announced...

Homeschool Graduate Panel - Do worries of socialization and college plague your mind? Close out the day through Q&A with the homeschool graduate panel. Bring all your what-ifs and what-abouts. The panel will answer questions that you submit throughout the day.

Plenary Speakers

Terri Woods is a mom of 9 children with over 20 years experience in homeschooling. When she's not trying to read all the classics she never read growing up, she's growing flowers and a floral business with her oldest daughter. She welcomed her first grandbaby this past year and now feels all is right with the world!! Terri is a member of the Wild+Free community and speaks at a few other conferences, but mostly loves being home and having tons of friends and family gather round the table at their little old house on a small goat farm in Alabama. You can find her on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/woodsermom/ and https://www.instagram.com/field_and_forage/

Melissa Greene is a mother of five, who's been homeschooling since 2007. She has two graduates, one through homeschool and the other through public school. She is currently home educating her three youngest children for the long haul. Melissa is a self-proclaimed bibliophile who also enjoys cooking and being with her family. She spends her free time studying different philosophies of education, facilitating a monthly Charlotte Mason Study Group and other book clubs, as well as blogging at http://reflectionsfromdrywoodcreek.blogspot.com/. There you will find ideas for planning your homeschool, book lists, and thoughts about education through daily living. You can also find her on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/melissaondrywoodcreek/

Breakout Session Speakers

Chris Kleven is mother to 6 and 'Grammy' to 12. She homeschooled for 18 years, graduating the youngest in 2018. She has her degree in art education from UW Stout and has used it for over 25 years to introduce young minds to the world of creativity, and appreciation of art and artists. She enjoys reading, scrapbooking, crossword puzzles, and cake decorating. Chris and her husband Arne also enjoy spending time at their cabin on Fish Lake, always awed and inspired by the Master Artist ~ the Lord Jesus.

Peg Gravrok is a happily married mother of four with over 20 years experience in homeschooling. Her oldest son was homeschooled through the 9th grade; oldest daughter homeschooled through 11th grade; and the next two were homeschooled all the way through. She needed a couple of trial runs before going all the way. Currently experiencing a gap year, Peg is diving deeply into homeopathy and Catholic religious studies (separately) because - why not? Peg has a degree in Business/Finance from College of St. Thomas and serves as the family CFO.
